The Independence Day hash 2022 was a float hash starting in the Big River Put in on RT 3. The 2:00 start was not as strict as a typical RIH3 starts and the crowd slowly arrived and brought the assorted floating vessels to the river. Initially it was suggested that Dr. Who would travel down river via inflatable tube and paddle via ping pong paddle. After we estimated the total distance to be 5+ miles to the end, Flo instead brought the two-man kayak and carried Dr. Who much like Cleopatra down the Nile- including towing a separate float just for the cooler. POY had her own sea-worthy crew that included Maddie and Tessie the wonder dogs. Maddie was not content to just paddle and took several swims where Tessie was content to have a beer and chill in the boat. Donkey who is known to be the bravest hasher (and arguable the best looking) in the Northeast decided to navigate the river on a stand-up paddle board. Oozy, Pubic and Mr. Bean made up the pack of paddlers. The paddle was great! And even though the water weeds and lily pads have grown in thick, the water was ample depth for everyone to maneuver without issues.
The paddle down the river was uneventful with several excellent floating beer stops, some light singing and sun tanning / sun burning for the pack. The Pack floated under the RT 95 bridge where the pack was cat called by local hoodlums, I can only assume it was due to Donkeys well fitted bathing trunks. After the first beer stop, Donkey found it difficult to drink a beer, balance on the paddle board and paddle, which eventually earned him HASHIT (or possibly overall jealousy of his well fitted swim trunks).
Once we reached Johnson Pond it opened up and it should have been a straight shot to the FLO/POY homestead. The pond was fairly busy with motor boats and jet ski’s. Several of which saw Donkey as a target to try to knock off the SUP, which they did successfully three times. As we gathered post paddle and prepared for the circle, Crotch Tiger and Just Maddie joined us for the run ratting and BBQ. In general Mr. Bean was Mr. Bean.
Over all great paddle, High ratings, good beer, No basket, Donkey in tight wet swim trunks, no marks and no running - could be top 5 run of the year.
